For almost 30 years, we have stained or painted many dozens of decks throughout the area. The deck conditions have varied from band new construction to older, very weathered and peeling. We have the expertise to revitalize and protect your decking regardless of its present conditions.
Most, if not all decks must be maintained on a regular basis. Decks should be cleaned and power washed before applying any product. Usually, vertical surfaces (ex. spindles, side boards on stairways, etc.) should be recoated every 2-4 years depending on sun and element exposure. Horizontal surfaces (like floors and railing tops, etc.) need to be recoated every 18 months to 2 years in order to preserve the integrity of the wood. There are some longer lasting products on the market now that provide 3-5 year or 5-7 year protection, but these products are solid stain and when dry will have a more “painted” than “stained” look.
One of the services we provide that is different from most of my competition is that while applying product to the prepared surface, we build a “tent” over the decking area to keep the sun off of the wood while applying product. This enables the product to dry uniformly and prevents premature peeling.
